Brian Palanacki, aka our pal @bunnywunny, relocated to a downtown loft after taking a hiatus from the working world to continue his computer science education. Brian has a special talent for knowing how to get creative on a professional student’s budget and we’re thrilled that he was a good enough sport to have the BCL team poke around his airy Chatham Street digs last month.

Hygge, the Danish ‘way of living well’ has gained a lot of traction in interior design as of late and we can see how Brian has carefully sprinkled the concept throughout his space. Since catching on as a UK lifestyle trend in 2016, the world has been ga-ga over everything ‘cozy’ (and rightfully-so). Candles, throw blankets, displaying recipe books full of comfort foods and a clean and minimal atmosphere with ‘hyggekrog‘ – nooks for getting cozy, are all creative (yet affordable) ways to make it nearly impossible to leave for early morning classes.
Another beautiful thing about this apartment is the downtown, urbanite, lifestyle that comes along with it. Chatham Street and surrounds have been undergoing a face-lift that’s been getting people excited about the prospects of a more bustling city centre. Imagine Friday’s biking to work at Quicken Loans, walking to the tunnel bus and over to Detroit for dinner, then late-night karaoke around the corner from home.
Brian’s apartment makes us want to throw away our lawnmowers and move to a single room hideaway downtown, which, in this case, is totally doable on a budget. If, like us, you’re itching to grab some of that @bunnywunny style, here’s a short list of his finds but be prepared to do a little ‘hacking’ in order to really achieve this Border City Living-approved design!
