Walkerville Townhome Before & After

Monmouth Road, with its red-bricked row-houses built in the 1800s, is by far one of the most iconic streets in East Windsor. The town homes were built and used as residences for the Hiram Walker Distillery employees at the turn of the century and to this day they beam with character, while standing to remind us of our city’s important history.  Property on Monmouth is heavily sought after, especially when renovated in a way that modernizes but highlights historical architecture. We were lucky enough to document the full overhaul of one, done by local, innovative home builders, Dana & Randy Gray of Gray Development Group. Take a peak inside!

Randy has been working in construction, building houses for years and his wife Dana (the mastermind behind the design) is also a fellow real estate sales rep with me at Vision Realty. They did such a great job “flipping” this old house that it sold for a shiny penny before it even hit the market. Their team went above and beyond to salvage this historical home by restructuring the flooring after years of rotting, caused by water seeping in through the exterior doors – a very common problem when crawlspaces are neglected and something to consider when deciding between DIYing vs. hiring a professional team.

Dana and Randy understand classic finishes and simple luxuries, especially in kitchens and bathrooms. In a small two bedroom home like this, it’s important to keep things light and airy vs. focusing on adding ornate details. The balance between modern and rustic, with trendy accents, is what makes this renovation such a success. The galley-style kitchen is bright and functional thanks to the Mylen custom cabinets with white quartz tops. The bold use of encaustic tile in the main floor bathroom ties the colour scheme together seamlessly.

The real showstopper of this flip is the master bathroom. I’m guessing they made the decision to convert a small third bedroom into this private, spa-like oasis – a really great call considering this feels more like the house for a professional couple rather than a bustling family. Keeping in line with the feel of all Grey Development Homes, they spared no expense on the finishes, free standing tub and Riobel fixtures on the oversized rain shower.

If you’re ever interested in hiring a great team for any renovations, or to build a house from the ground up, get in contact with Randy Gray below and be sure to follow their instagram to stay up to date on their current projects.

We’re always on the hunt to document creative and interesting Windsor & Essex-County renovations, particularly those with heritage and historical architecture – shout out to us, here, if you know of any!
